How to Change cPanel Username in WHM

Changing a cPanel username requires root access to WHM. This action updates the system username associated with the account.

⚠️ Important: Changing the username may affect file paths, email accounts, database connections, and application configurations. Always take a full backup before proceeding.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • WHM root access

  • Full account backup

  • Access to update application configuration files if needed

Method 1: Using WHM (Recommended Method)

Step 1: Login to WHM

  1. Access WHM using:
    https://your-server-ip:2087

  2. Login as root.

Step 2: Search for “Modify an Account”

  1. In the WHM search bar, type:
    Modify an Account

  2. Click on it.

Step 3: Select the Account

  1. Select the account/domain for which you want to change the username.

  2. Click Modify.

Step 4: Change the Username

  1. Locate the Username field.

  2. Enter the new username.

    • Must be unique

    • Usually 8 characters maximum (depending on server configuration)

    • Lowercase letters and numbers only

  3. Click Save.

WHM will process the username change.
